Who We Are

“South Lanark Community Garden” is our new name and it replaces our former name “The Lanark-Highlands Plan B Community Garden”. Since September of 2021 we have been a not-for-profit Corporation. We are organized as one big garden with volunteers who enable the scale of fresh produce that we produce. In turn they are able to take as much of the fresh produce to meet their needs. In addition we work with and distribute surplus fresh produce as circumstances and availability permit to the Lanark Highlands Plan B, the Food Pantry of Lanark, the Perth Community Food Table and the Hunger Stop of Carleton Place. The South Lanark Community Garden on the one hand is focused on the growing and supplying of fresh produce to our community while on the other hand ensuring the notion of community building and sharing is ever-present in our day to day activities.
Our Objectives
The objects or objectives for which we are incorporated are quite widely stated, this to enable us to react quickly to changing needs and developments as they occur. They are as follows

1. The establishment, operation and maintenance of a community garden and ancillary activities to;
a. Assure the security and sovereignty of our community food system,
b. Grow, produce, store and distribute fresh produce, dried and stored produce and prepared food to our members, and the larger community,
c. Develop a community based seed saving, trading and distribution service,
d. Foster the care, and nurturing of a community learning environment,
e. Encourage the personal development of gardens within the community,
f. Encourage community participation in ongoing learning seminars, workshops, hands-on training,
g. Transfer community garden knowledge and information to the community at large,
2. And such other complementary purposes not inconsistent with these objects.
Come Join Us!
The activities of the community garden are sharing in nature as all of our volunteers are welcome to harvest what they need from the garden. We rely heavily on all members of our larger community for support. There are many ways to volunteer your time and talents to help this operation run smoothly, from starting seedlings in the very early spring, to transplanting, weeding, harvesting, garden maintenance, produce delivery, seed saving, as well as many other ways to contribute.

This project is a real time learning experience and one which is both fascinating and fulfilling at the same time. It helps to develop that sense of community in all of us which is what The South Lanark Community Garden is all about.
